Those of us old enough, may remember CORONA a vibrant coloured carbonated drink, and not a Virus that has changed the world.
The CORONA brand was created by two grocers in Wales, William Thomas and William Evans, who ran their company Thomas Evans Ltd from their original factory in the town of Porth in the Rhonda Valley, South Wales.
It was because of a growth in the temperance movement and good timing, the brand grew in popularity, and soon they had 87 depots throughout the UK. The drink came in a range of exciting colours and unusual flavours including favorites like Beer Shandy, Cherryade, Ciderapple and Dandelion and Burdoch, and came in a clear glass bottle, that when purchased you paid a deposit on.
The fizzy drinks were sold in a unique way by a team of over 200 door to door salesmen, Who would call on customers the same day every week, to collect orders, and collect the empty bottles, you were paid 2 shillings ( 10p ) for every bottle returned.
The bottles came in a distinctive orange wooden crate, these are now very rare and sort after, in fact many early vinyl DJ’s used these crates to keep their 7 inch vinyl records in.

In 1958 the Beecham Company purchased the CORONA brand from William Thomas and William Evans, and not long after they incorporated into their BRITVIC range of soft drinks.
I acquired this beautiful heavy CORONA enael sign at an Antiques Fair in the South of England, it would enhance any collection and is available now.
